A few years ago, I ask the Great Void to make me busy!
Boy, did it ever respond!!
for Two years now, I've had my plate full!
I just got over three deadlines in two weeks! And they weren't for simple illustrations either!! I'm very happy that I'm this busy and having art directors seek me out for stuff that I really enjoy doing!
But there's an emptiness where once was something fullfilling.
I MISS WORKING ON MY OWN STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I re-arranged my studio space and discovered the true number of unfinished shadowbird art and other stuff that I started when I had the time.
Not to mention what I want to do on line with my work. Selling prints and such. Responding to comments by other Deviants. Especially all the friends I have made here!
Anyway, I guess I'm the type that is never satisfied.
That comes from my mother.
Thanks Mom!
Om Shanti Everyone!

Yeah on busy- better than having famine years as I seem to have. However, I can see how bad it would be not to be able to get back to those projects that are near and dear to your heart. But I really love all the work you do- it just goes right to that place of magic and wonder!

I understand your 'wish' and how somedays it feels like reality is taking a sledgehammer to it. There are days when I dream about publishing my own authored children's book and then I look at the work I'm doing at the moment and think to myself, "Will the world ever know my true spirit, or, will I always be the illustrator to someone elses writing?" I have to stop thinking this because it taints what I enjoy doing most: visual story telling. The point that your best work only happens when you are working in full enjoyment, will be true if it is 'full' enjoyment. I very rarely take on a story that is not good and because of the position I'm in at the moment, I have great connections for my own ideas.
Therefore I have to realize that my own authorship is just entering the harbor
Okay, I'll stop while I'm ahead!
Do you let people know that you are a contract illustrator? An illustrator that can contract out his spare time?
Also, do you keep a small tape recorder with you for the muse that hits you a great idea when you are in the midst of work and cannot get to your drawing board?
(A little thing that can take a chunk out of reality.)
Well, reality is hitting me now and I gotta go!
Ciao Bello!
